These are the first definitive records for this Asian Citrus pest in the new world. Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana of the Dominican Republic Government (DR's equivalent of the USDA) accepted assistance from the USDA to survey the DR for this butterfly. I was fortunate to spend four days surveying (9/28-10/02/04) citrus groves. The survey found 3 new widely separated locations, thus indicating the butterfly is widespread and well established in the DR. After considerable review of this and similar species I am convinced that the introduction must have come from the deliberate importation for hobby interests or release of butterflies at a celebration such as a wedding. The introduction must have originated with chrysalis or adult butterflies that arrived by airplane. No other scenario makes sense considering the biology of this butterfly and the nature of shipping." 9:00 - 9:45 Dr. Wehling Round Table Discussion Dr. Wehling will take and answer questions. 9:45 - 10:10 Break ~ IBBA Store Open 10:10 - 11:00 Dr. Jaret Daniels 11:00 - 11:15 Q&A 11:15 - 11:40 Donna Pless Methods of Releasing Adult Butterflies 11:40 - 11:50 Q&A "An upclose look at the different release methods used by the professionals in our industry. A beautiful pool-side demonstration will include over a dozen of the most popular release containers currently used, and the success (or failure) stories of each method." Over 100 butterflies will be released during this presentation. 11:50 - 12:10 Donna Pless Actual Butterfly Releases Butterfly Release methods will be demonstrated outdoors by the pool if weather permits. The pool is just outside the restaurant, after the release we will immediately enter the restaurant to eat. 12:10 - 12:30 Poolside Farewell from the President (if it's warm enough, otherwise we will stay inside) 12:30 - 1:30 Lunch
